Some Happy Repairs & Custom Modifications

From Shawn in Massachusetts - a very talented and exacting player

I have a Warmoth jazz bass that I brought to Eric for him to convert the neck to fretless.
He did a fantastic job! This is at least 5 or 6 years ago, and I still play it on a semi-regular basis.
I've bought other fretless instruments in my search for the sound, but I know exactly how
this particular instrument sounds. It has a maple neck and fingerboard that Eric defretted, lined
and put some sort of light finish on the fingerboard. The neck sings!
Thanks Eric!

From Mike in Virginia. The letter says it all! You can see Mike's Kramer at

Replacing a stolen guitar (1984 Kramer-Floyd Rose model) of 11 years is difficult when it was the last one I ever wanted. Breaking the replacement even if it wasn't quite as good as the original was devastating. So I gather some info and start calling people, one of which was the guitar doctor. Of the 3 or 4 I talked to Eric listened and would actually talk back about anything I wanted to know. He didn't forget our conversations so after quite a few months I finally get the nerve to send my wounded Kramer to him. He took care of it just like he said he would! Everything I asked for I got, and more! New paint job, new neck, new pickup and some amazing sound, clarity, power, feel, sustain, and a whole lot of knowledge because I wanted to know every how, why, what does this do, etc. About this new custom Kramer which believe it or not is better than the original. Yes I said better! You have to be good to better something that in memory was already perfect. Eric did that for me. So a great big thank you to Eric Vance for restoring a missing piece of me! This guitar is beyond perfect!!!!!

From Phil in Georgia who found us on the web and sent his Gibson Blues King 1,200 miles for a good set up! Phil's faith, patience and understanding during the busy holiday season are appreciated as much as his kind words. Thanks, Phil…

…"Guitar arrived safely last night, with your bill and MasterCard statement. It's very, very improved and I'm really pleased! Thanks very much. Haven't played it much yet. Last night I just set it out of the box. Cold weather made me decide to let it acclimate indoors. Picked at it some this morning and the action is everything you said it'd be. Smartest move I could have made was sending it to you. It's all I'd hoped."

A few days later…

"Smartest thing I ever did after playing this guitar for three years, always with the nagging belief it should play easier/better than it did, but not trusting 'just anyone' to fool with it. Guitar Doctor showed from our first e-mails he knows and values quality guitars and quality work as much, if not more than I do. The end result only confirmed it."

"Have any doubts? Put them in your drawer and e-mail the Guitar Doctor. Ask him what you want, and his answers will persuade you he wants your guitar to look and play as well as it can, maybe more than you do. You can trust this guy. He's a reliable pro, with reasonable prices for great work."

I'll stop now. But let me know if you want me to keep going … don't count me as anything but an avid fan! I've truly lived around the world, I and in several states (New York City-to-Texas-to-Florida-to-Guam-to-Italy-Turkey-DC-to-GA), and am older than, perhaps, you'd guess. Point is, I have a real appreciation for how rare it is that a craftsman is as good as I hope he is and he advertises to be. You fill both criteria. I mean it sincerely, from first to last.

A real pleasure to do business with you, I wish you the best of luck, and will remain a loyal and vocal fan.

Warm regards,

Phil"

From a different "Steve":
From Steve (a happy local guitarist)

"You fixed up my red Fender Strat a couple weeks ago so I thought
I'd add a comment."

"You came highly recommended from Bob at the South Weymouth New Song
Folk Club, after trying several other 'experts".

My Stratocaster's frets were buzzing and the bridge was too high. I
never thought it would be back to normal. Whatever magic you did, cured
the problem, and it plays like a dream now.

Thanks again for an expert job. Steve -Weymouth, MA"

From a great local guitarist, Steve:

"Dear Doc,

I just wanted to let you know that my SG sounds phenomenal. When I stopped by and picked it up the other day, I didn't have time to plug it in and give it a try; but later that night when I got home, I set it up and was "amazed" at how much better it sounded. I thought it sounded great straight from the factory, but your finishing touches made all the difference. It's nice to know I have someone who I can trust with my investments.

Thanks Again,

Steve Santacroce"

I got the Tele today. You did a great thing here: this guitar suits
me perfectly. And you're right, it does seem brand new. But I'll soon
fix that.

Thanks!

Mike J.

Upon delivery of the custom Music Man Silouette  hardtail metalflake green model w/ birdseye maple board, pearloid pickguard. and custom pickups. Check out Ken's cool guitar in Doc's Gallery.

"Hi Eric,
The guitar got here at 3pm yesterday.
I unpacked it, and took down to the basement for a test drive.
My first impression: I was stunned!
I'm amazed that you were able to fit all those pickups together! Now I know
why it took you all night!
The "tones" are monstrous. I've never played, let alone held a guitar like
this before. I was blown away by the sound of those pickups, alone,
combined, volume on , volume off, etc...I could spend the rest of my life
finding all of the sounds that these pickups make.
That P-90 CRACKLES! That's a freakin' hot pickup! The minute I heard it I
thought, there is no way I'm going to need a distortion or boost pedal
anymore. That pickup is right on the edge.
The single coil is great. I really think that it will serve the purpose of
mellow out the P-90 and the 1/4#.
The 1/4# is a monster too, plenty of sqwak!
It was really amazing to have my Super Reverb on "4", and the p/u all dialed
in at "10", and strike a chord so loud and resonant that I thought my
foundation was going to collapse. Now I've got to learn how to control this
thing.
You did a fantastic job.
Cheers,
Ken"
